In 2003, Jeff released his full-length LP, Lately,
backed by his then band Jones One. Co-Produced with Myles Mangino (The
Pixies, Mark Mulcahy, lead tour engineer for U2
Zooropa Tour), it received quick regional sales and wide critical acclaim.
The release gigs drew huge crowds across the Northeast, including sold out
rooms at the Lion’s Den, NYC and Harper’s Ferry, Boston respectively.
Two pre-released singles off the album debuted for two weeks as the #1 and
#2 most downloaded songs by Massachusetts bands on MP3.com.
In 2004, slews of online reviews continued to praise the album – The Noise gave a rare glowing assessment, calling Jeff and the band “exceedingly talented” and said it would “recommend this album to anyone who likes to hear superb musicians play, whether it’s jam band blues or pretty pop songs.”
After playing
years worth of gigs at clubs and schools, that brought Jeff from
Bill’s Bar, to the College of Holy Cross,
from Trinity College to the Bitter End,
from the Brickyard to the Webster Theatre,
Jeff took a break from live shows in 2006 and spent six months writing new tracks for a follow
up album. In 2007 Jeff, now living in Cambridge, Mass, and joined by a backing
band of some former Jones One members, and some new blood, is out playing
live again.
The lineup:
Drums–Mark Greenberg
(Dicky Betts, Roomful of Blues, Ronnie Earl)
Guitar-Mike Null (Toni Lee Washington)
Bass/Guitar/vocals-Hank Woods
Piano, Vocals-Jeff Ginsburg
Though Jeff originally comes from jazz & blues, studying with keys extraordinaire Bruce Katz, Jeff’s sound leans more toward rock, folk, and funk. After obsessing over the likes of Dylan, Buckley, Brubeck, Wonder, and Allman(s), Jeff prays to fall somewhere within a 1000 mile circumference of them all.
Previously playing as “Jones One”, Jeff and his band traveled to schools, colleges and clubs around the northeast and beyond from 1999-2003, selling over 1000 copies of a short LP “Home” before releasing the full-length “Lately”.
While “Lately” received quick sales and critical acclaim, Jeff and the band drew packed clubs, colleges and schools across the Northeast.
During a subsequent three years off from live shows, Jeff focused on writing and putting together a new backing sound.
Now drumming vet Mark Greenberg joins Jeff after years with legend Dicky Betts and Roomful of Blues. Mike Null comes off successful runs with Toni Lynn Washington and Sarah Brindell. Hank Woods can be found playing bass, guitar, trumpet, or one of 10 other instruments in New York on a nightly basis.
After testing the group out in 2006 with special shows at The Bitter End and the Middle East, the new music and new band are creating a new buzz – web sales of Lately are surging and the most recent show at the Bitter End was jam packed, and drew two curtain calls.
Jeff and band will soon head into the studio to record a second album with Producer Myles Mangino (Pixies, Mark Mulcahy) – but for now Jeff is continuing to perform solo and with the band to test out the new material.
